A little over a year ago Hilty Consulting LLC was created. Shortly after, Emily started making plans for us to put on our own math conference. I, of course, thought she was absolutely crazy and couldn’t even begin to think about how we could ever pull that off. Every time we got together she would drop little reminders my way that we could and should start the planning process.
Fast forward to December. As I reflected back over the year and all that we had accomplished, I allowed myself to start dreaming bigger. What if? Maybe? Why not? Around this time, Emily had connected me with Shannon Driskell, a professor at the University of Dayton (Go Flyers!), and instantly I knew the three of us shared the same philosophical beliefs about math education. We started brainstorming what a 2-day math summit could look like, what sessions we could offer, where we could hold it, and before I knew what was happening, we were actually planning our own math conference!
In January I enlisted the help of my sister-in-law, and she really made our dream start to become a reality. She made me learn how to write contracts, create jot forms, set up a square account, and the list goes on. But here’s the thing–we did it! We created a 2-day Number Sense SUMmit, we were holding it at our alma mater, and as nervous as we were, we were BEYOND excited!
Then came the coronavirus…I have put off writing this post for several weeks because I honestly didn’t want to write it. The bad news is our summit won’t be taking place this summer. The good news is, we will try again next summer! We will still use the same layout, presenters, and sessions we had for this summer. You can click on this link to see the full Number Sense SUMmit brochure.
If you would be interested in joining us in Dayton, Ohio during the summer of 2021, we would love to hear from you. We will be creating a poll to see when most people would be available to join us. Look for that to appear sometime in the fall.
Thank you again to all of our loyal followers. It is because of you we are able to dream big and find ways to fulfill those dreams…even if it means we have to delay them a little bit.
